Join Us for Reframe: Batman and the White Male Imagination on Nov. 27!

Reframe: Exploring Popular Culture Through an Intersectional Lens seeks to build community through a shared interest in timely, thought-provoking art. Our events feature screenings, food, and informal discussion that explores pop culture through an intersectional lens. In a relaxed setting, we hope to have the conversations that don’t just fulfill the desire to dig deeper into our favorite media, but also help us better understand each other and the world around us. For our next installment of Reframe, we’ll be hosting a discussion on the subject of “Batman and the White Male Imagination.” Utilizing an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series," as well as other relevant pop culture commentaries, we’ll be exploring the parallels in imagery and messaging between Batman and white supremacist/imperialist propaganda most famously popularized by the 1915 film Birth of Nation. While I (Bruce) am a huge fan of the Batman property, I believe that discussing and dissecting it with a critical lens is part of our duty as conscientious consumers. It’s also an opportunity to take on a difficult subject in a fun and accessible way. “Reframe: Batman and the White Male Imagination” will be held in the basement at Bridgeport United Church of Christ on Tuesday Nov. 27 at 7:00 pm. Please RSVP. We hope to see you there!
